In 2025, the small Atlantic archipelago of Cabo Verde stands on the brink of history: its national football team, the Blue Sharks, is about to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the very first time. This film tells the story of a people shaped by centuries of colonialism, migration, and resilience, who now celebrate 50 years of independence, endure devastating floods, and unite behind a team that carries their hopes onto the world’s biggest stage. More than a sports story, the film portrays the journey of a nation shaped by suffering — islands once a hub of the slave trade, later forging a unique Creole identity carried by generations of diaspora across Europe, Africa, and the Americas. On the pitch, sons of that diaspora return to represent their parents’ homeland, turning football into a symbol of belonging and hope.
